Our manufacturing team is made up of Karen, Carol, Michelle, Jane, Laura and Paula.
Together we have over 160 years experience in manufacturing, interior design and costume design.
Mask Community is a new project run by The Sewing Rooms. We are an award winning Social Enterprise
founded by long-time friends and business partners, Paula Gamester and Maureen Fazal. Our work
directly addresses social exclusion by supporting some of society’s most vulnerable adults -
including former prisoners, domestic violence survivors, refugees, older isolated individuals,
long-term unemployed, and people living with mental health conditions.
We usually provide training in heritage craft skills, with a focus on upcycling, sewing and upholstery.
Our courses are tailored specifically to each group’s needs. We help participants put together
individual development plans - for education, employment and emotional wellbeing and resilience.
When possible, we guide participants into paid employment or self-employment.
In response to the Covid-19 crisis we have shifted our focus to Face Mask production
as a way of reaching new people and passing on manufacturing skills.
We invest our profits into our local community.
Every sale of a mask helps us support others.
